A poorly applied or uneven protective layer can lead to issues such as flaking particles during the printing process, which might scratch or damage the sensitive components of the printer. To identify the quality of thermal paper, several methods can be used: 1. **Visual Inspection**: High-quality thermal paper should have a slightly greenish tone rather than being overly white. Excessive whiteness often indicates an overuse of phosphor, which can affect performance. Additionally, if the surface appears too shiny or has an uneven finish, it may suggest an inconsistent coating. 2. **Heat Test**: Using a lighter to gently heat the back of the paper can help determine its quality. If the paper turns brown quickly, it may indicate a poor formulation and a shorter lifespan. On the other hand, high-quality thermal paper will turn black with a slight greenish tint, and the color should spread evenly and gradually fade from the center outward. 3. **Sunlight Exposure Test**: Applying a highlighter to the printed area and exposing it to sunlight can accelerate the fading process. The paper that darkens the fastest generally has a shorter shelf life, while those that remain stable for longer are considered higher quality.
