The one-color printing process is a versatile technique that can produce a wide range of colors in a single print run, delivering visual effects and craftsmanship comparable to multi-color printing. This method is not only efficient but also cost-effective, ensuring high-quality results while offering unique artistic value that appeals to customers. As a result, the cross-color printing technique remains widely used in packaging and decorative printing.
When using the TY401 printing press for packaging boxes and similar products, implementing the cross-color printing process is often necessary to achieve the desired design. This involves applying two or three colors simultaneously on different sections of the same printing plate, allowing for more complex color gradients that enhance the product's visual appeal. Traditionally, lead-cast ink screens were used to separate inks, but this approach often led to mixing and poor print quality. The introduction of a custom-made ink-insulating device significantly improved the printing outcome, ensuring consistent and stable results.
**Preparation Work**
First, drill screw holes at both ends of the ink tank on the TY401 printing press. Then, thread a silk line through these holes to install and remove the ink separation device easily.
**Production of the Ink-Insulation Device**
1. Drill a 40 mm-wide hole into the flat iron of the TY401 printing machine, aligning it with the screw holes on the ink fountain. In the middle of the flat iron, create an elongated sliding channel with a width of 20 mm to adjust the distance between the ink-insulating plates based on the printing width and cross-color requirements.
2. Cut thick cardboard according to the angle and curvature of the ink fountain. Use a 3 mm thick iron plate to cut and arrange multiple ink-blocking plates for easy access. Fold the upper end of the ink-receiving part horizontally, drill a hole, and secure it into the sliding groove of the flat iron. Once installed, the ink-insulating device can be placed into the ink fountain, aligned with the machine’s holes, and fixed with screws. If cross-color printing is not needed, simply loosen the screws and remove the device.
**Cross-Color Printing Process**
1. Before starting the cross-color printing, place the ink-blocking plates in the ink fountain, adjusting their number based on the product's color count. Set the ink volume and spacing of the plates according to the original layout. Place the corresponding ink colors in each section of the ink fountain and adjust the printing pressure to ensure even ink distribution and proper transfer.
2. It is recommended to use a metal base plate (such as aluminum) for cross-color printing. Metal plates are less likely to deform during printing, providing stable ink transfer. As the ink roller rotates, different ink colors are distributed and mixed slightly at their edges, forming a natural gradient that appears well-defined and smooth on the final product.
3. For optimal results, all inks should be evenly soft, with accurate ink amounts and uniform output from each ink fountain. Adjust the contact between the ink rollers and the inking roller to maintain consistent color and prevent unwanted mixing. This ensures a balanced and natural appearance across the printed surface.
4. Due to the fluid nature of ink, the insulating plates help prevent adjacent colors from mixing. After placing the device, avoid moving the ink volume adjustment screws unless absolutely necessary. If adjustments are required, only reduce the ink amount, not increase it, to maintain the arc consistency of the ink-blocking plate and avoid color contamination. If you must increase the ink, adjust the rotation angle of the ink roller instead.
