Equipment fabrics Oscar's most photogenic polyester

Xiao Ku is taking you on the journey to the Great God, and today I'm introducing you to a unique material—Dacron. Polyester, also known as Terrelen in some regions, is commonly referred to as "Daklun" by Americans. In China during the early 1990s, it was widely recognized under the name "Dacron," becoming a household name that dominated the market. Over time, as polyester found its way into various outdoor products, it has gained a more premium image, often called "polyester fibers." The reason for its widespread use is due to its versatility and exceptional performance. Polyester is actually the simplest among the three major synthetic fibers, making it cost-effective. However, its affordability doesn't compromise its remarkable properties: durability, excellent elasticity, resistance to deformation, corrosion resistance, good insulation, crisp texture, easy washing, and quick drying. These qualities make it a popular choice for many applications, especially in equipment and apparel. 1. **High Strength** Polyester has a low hygroscopicity, meaning its strength remains consistent whether wet or dry. Its impact strength is four times higher than nylon and twenty times greater than viscose. This makes it ideal for use in webbings and other equipment parts requiring high tensile strength. 2. **Good Elasticity** When stretched by 5% to 6%, polyester almost fully recovers. It exhibits superior wrinkle resistance, maintaining its shape and offering excellent dimensional stability. This property makes it durable, anti-wrinkle, and suitable for no-iron garments. It's often blended with other fabrics to enhance comfort and appearance. 3. **Excellent Wear Resistance** Polyester ranks second only to nylon in abrasion resistance and outperforms most natural and synthetic fibers. Because of this, it's frequently used in blends with nylon to create durable materials like tent fabrics. 4. **Resistant to Chemicals** It is resistant to bleaches, oxidants, hydrocarbons, ketones, petroleum products, and inorganic acids. It also resists alkali and mildew, though hot alkali can cause decomposition. Additionally, it has strong acid and alkali resistance and UV protection, which is why many outerwear items are made from 100% polyester fabric. 5. **Low Hygroscopicity, Fast Drying** Although polyester does not absorb moisture well, it dries extremely quickly. Its wet strength remains stable, and it doesn’t deform easily. This makes it perfect for quick-drying undergarments and sportswear. Many brands clearly label their products as 100% polyester, ensuring consumers know exactly what they're getting. In summary, polyester is not just a cheap fabric—it’s a versatile, durable, and high-performance material that continues to play a crucial role in modern textile manufacturing. Whether in outdoor gear, clothing, or industrial applications, polyester proves its value time and again.
