The world's first A3 format eight-color machine

At Drupa 2004, Heidelberg exhibited the world's first Speedmaster SM52 eight-color machine and its new features for companies that want to enhance A3 format productivity, or those who undertake open format and part of A3 format. This A3 format machine can be used to complete both double-sided and four-color jobs as well as one-sided eight-color printing in one pass. It has a new paper conveying system, including an ink-repellent roller jacket “enhanced transfer deck” for the transfer drum and a “enhanced perfect jacket” for the impression transfer cylinder. The reduced-diameter reversal printing cylinder cooperates with the reinforced transfer paper sheath to ensure smoother paper transport and avoid paper scratches. The paper delivery section and the paper guides on the upper and lower sides of the transfer cylinder are optimized, eliminating the need for adjustments to the printing services and the image of the printed product. Paper brakes and suction belts are also used in the delivery section, and the central suction belt can be replaced by a pneumatic panel. Therefore, the paper can run smoothly on the paper.

After the paper improvement of the entire Speedmaster SM52 series, the SM52 can now even accept substrates up to 0.6 mm in thickness. The original design concept has been expanded to ensure that the SM52 can deliver high quality printing and extremely short lead times, from thick paper rollers to tissue paper. The diameter of the new transfer cylinder is adjustable so that the gap between the impression cylinder and the transfer cylinder can be precisely set to prevent the paper from being scratched during transport. In order to enhance the flexibility of the SM52 in the printing range, software and paper brakes with three suction belts were added to the Prinect CP2000 center console. Vario dampening system can be installed according to user needs. Deceleration dampening roller can remove ring spots more easily. This unique research result marks a breakthrough initiative that people can complete with full-page printing.
