Electronic document generation and exchange (below)

The Post script language usually sees the use of Postscript language to drive printers, imagesetters, and other output devices on all DTP systems. This does not mean that standards can be eliminated. In a particular printing process flow (especially in advertising and publishing), jobs in the process continue to use different hardware and software, and Postscript files cannot be returned to the application package for further editing. Moreover, Postscript languages are often created by specific output devices. Different manufacturers' output raster image processors (ie, RIPs) process the same Postscript file, and the results obtained may be quite different. Therefore, the recipient of an electronic document has never been able to confirm how the document was processed in the production process. Therefore, DDAP and CGATS have decided to choose another file format as the standard format for file transfer.
Portable Document Format (PDF)
Adobe Systems Corp. introduced the PDF format in mid-1993 and introduced relevant file formats to other users, and it can be used without any license or authorization. The PDF file is based on the Postscript language imaging mode and describes text and pictures in a device- and resolution-independent manner. And it defines a format that is more structured than most Postscript language programs and solves many of the problems that occur with font swapping by embedding output fonts in the file. In addition, it can also describe output files created by DTP software that creates Postscript files. It is estimated that with the development of new software, PDF file editing capabilities will be greater than any Postscript file.
The CGATS Sixth Subcommittee is currently working hard to define a PDF implementation standard to ensure that all the performance needed to exchange final assembly pages in the printing process is fully realized. (Note that the "page" here is used to represent all the material as a single entity - it can be a partial page, a full page, or a multi-page physical area.) These requirements are based on a wide variety of inputs, the most important All elements including creatives are included in the DDAP Association's requirements document. In addition, CGATS SC6 also defines the characteristics of the final pages generated by other software, and obtains relevant data through other industry organizations such as GCA, IPA, and GAA.
Although the 1.2 version of the Adobe PDF application contains many newly developed features, it does not yet meet all the requirements and requires a further release. CGATS believes that the PDF file may meet the needs of the printing industry and is ready to introduce an implementation standard that uses Adobe PDF in the printing process.
When other electronic files transfer electronic files in a file format other than TIFF/IT (and PDF, once appropriate standards appear), the information must be transmitted in great detail so that the recipient can open or, if possible, edit the file. This is very important. The file should contain information such as illustration bleeding, separation software, manuscript clips, fonts, overprints, screening information, merged elements and their exact location on the page, hue, trimming, vignetting, positioning, resolution, and more. At each step of the process, the person who passes the document must provide the appropriate information to avoid the file being inoperable or missing.
Related business information Advertisers and advertising agencies can use GCA SPACE and other guidelines if they need to exchange documents for reserved space, insertion orders, and ad copy instructions. Currently SPACE only provides the basic format and requirements for this type of information, through paper or fixed-area ASCII files. The GCA, the National Association of Advertisers (NAA) and DDAP DEBIES are currently collaborating to create an Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12 Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) parameter specification standard for the same SPACE information defined by CGATS SC6. If you implement the X12 version of SPACE, users can use EDI communication software to exchange reserved space, insert orders and ad copy instructions, and you can also choose to attach image files.
One of the responsibilities: Examine and undoubtedly develop and maintain good communication among the four basic partners in the printing process – advertising agencies or advertisers, prepress service providers, publishers, and printers. It is very important. If this kind of communication is interrupted, mistakes will occur and someone must take responsibility. The implementation of standards and standards is a key means of ensuring successful delivery in all-digital workflows, and the implementation process must be unwavering, attention to detail, and constant adoption of new technologies. Appropriate validation processes must be added to every step of the electronic workflow, just like traditional film workflows.
