The high-priced purchase of solid wood furniture is actually not the right one. Ms. Wang, the owner of the furniture store, went to the South Long Court with the furniture market and asked for a refund and compensation of 160,000 yuan. Under the mediation of the court, this consumer dispute has recently ended.
In August 2012, Ms. Wang purchased solid wood furniture such as beds, dressing tables, wine cabinets, desks and flower stands at the counter of a certain market company, which cost a total of 80,000 yuan. During the trial, Ms. Wang said that it was because of the credibility and influence of the furniture store that it would purchase. At the time, in the shop, she saw all the labels indicating that the main material used for the furniture was ash, and the accessory was fir. After receiving the goods, she discovered that some of the cabinet doors could not be completely closed. After careful inspection, the main raw materials of these furniture were composite panels.
The furniture that was bought at a big price did not match the promise of the merchant. Ms. Wang felt that she had suffered consumer fraud. In January of this year, she complained to the Consumer Rights Protection Association. After mediation, the two parties agreed to replace four large pieces of furniture, such as dressing tables and desks, with solid wood materials, and delivered them by March 31. However, Ms. Wang has repeatedly urged that the merchants still failed to deliver within the agreed time. In April of this year, Ms. Wang filed a lawsuit against the other party. At the same time, she provided a recent indoor air quality inspection report in which formaldehyde and indoor total volatile organic compounds exceeded the standard to prove that the quality of the furniture was unqualified.
Furniture Market Co., Ltd. responded that as a shopping mall, it is not a provider of goods. According to the sales list of the case, it is not possible to distinguish whether the furniture is made of pure solid wood. In this case, the main body of the sales contract was the operator Jiang, and the furniture market as the operating space renter has fulfilled the review responsibility. Ms. Wang took the initiative to withdraw her claim against Furniture Market Co., Ltd.
After mediation, Jiang and Ms. Wang reached an agreement. Ms. Wang returned all the purchased furniture to Jiang, and Jiang returned Ms. Wang’s furniture for 80,000 yuan and paid compensation of 20,000 yuan.
