New ion chromatography technique for detection of bromate in barley products

Abstract: Bromate is difficult to dissolve in water and easily decomposes when heated. Bromate is internationally classified as a potential carcinogen of Class 2B. It is a by-product of natural water sources such as mineral water and mountain spring water after ozone disinfection.

Recently, the Science and Technology Project of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of Tibet undertook the implementation of the AQSIQ Science and Technology Project "Research on the Detection Method of Bromate in Barley Products" passed the acceptance of the expert group. The expert group unanimously believes that the project has a reasonable design plan, correct technical route, complete data, accurate and detailed data, and has completed the research contents specified in the plan mission statement. In view of the particularity of barley products, the project cited and used the latest detection methods for the determination of bromate in foods at home and abroad, conducted screening and optimization, and adopted the latest technology such as SPE to solve the key technology of sample pretreatment and established ion chromatography- The detection method of bromate in barley products by conductivity method has reached the domestic leading level in the detection of bromate in barley products using ion chromatography technology.

The expert group believes that the method established by the project is accurate, sensitive, reproducible, simple to operate, and low in analysis cost. It has a very good application prospect for the detection and quality control of bromate in barley products. In recent years, the Tibet Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has taken the responsibility of serving local economic development, using its own technology and equipment advantages, and tightly focused on how to better serve the transformation and development, service regional development, service guarantee and improvement of people ’s livelihood, and comprehensively apply various measures To actively serve economic and social development. Focusing on the goals of helping farmers to increase income and enriching the people, Tibet has further accelerated the pace of scientific and technological inspections. A large number of scientific research projects with local characteristics have been established and implemented, and considerable progress has been made in the revision of standards.
