Suzhou Nano Institute realizes the control and preparation of ultra-thin carbon nanotube film and constructs a flexible sensor

The transparent single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) ultra-thin film has a variety of unique physical and chemical characteristics such as high light transmittance, excellent mechanical properties, and good electrical conductivity, making it suitable for low-cost flexible transparent touch screens and high sensitivity. Sensors, plastic electronics and other fields have a wide range of applications. Therefore, in recent years, the research on the preparation and performance of carbon nanotube films has attracted extensive attention from researchers at home and abroad, and the controllable preparation of the thickness and performance of the film has always been a difficulty.

Wang Xuewen, a research group of Zhang Shu, a researcher of Suzhou Institute of Nanotechnology and Nanobionics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has proposed a novel and ingenious method for multiple self-supporting single-walled carbon nanotube ultra-thin films with uniform controllability. The researchers used the surface tension of water to peel off single-walled carbon nanotube ultra-thin films with uniform thickness, size and performance. The thickness of each film prepared was evenly distributed between 20-30 nm, and the light transmittance in the visible light region was as high as 93%.

Subsequently, the researchers transferred the ultra-thin film onto a flexible PET substrate, constructed a flexible transparent chemical sensor device, and realized high-sensitivity detection of ammonia gas at room temperature. The relevant results have been published in the journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry, J. Mater.

The work was supported by funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and the Suzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau project, as well as the support of the Suzhou Nano Institute Printed Electronics Center, nano-processing platform, and analytical testing platform.
