IBM on Tuesday disclosed a new radio frequency identification (RFID) system used to identify counterfeit products in the country's pharmaceutical sources.
IBM claims that this IBM RFID system for drug tracking and tracking uses hybrid RFID software and services to automatically collect and track the movement of drugs in the supply chain.
RFID tags are embedded in products at the unit, package, and pallet level and can identify drugs—up to 10 times before reaching the point of sale—from manufacturers to wholesalers to hospitals and pharmacies. Each tag contains a unique identifier that links back to product information (such as dose and concentration, lot number manufacturer, and expiration date).
