Currently, corrugated cartons are mostly printed with spot color inks. The number of printing press units determines the maximum number of colors that can be printed. In the pre-press reprint, under the premise of being able to express the designer's creativity, the number of printing colors should be determined according to factors such as the number of printing units and the process of using white ink and coating oil. In addition, for designs that must be color-coded to show the effect, when the pre-printing process considers the total number of colors, do not ignore the color separation characteristics of the flexographic printing.
In practice, there are often encountered special circumstances. For example, many corrugated box printers are three-color machines and cannot achieve normal four-color printing. Therefore, in the color printing process, three colors are often used to reproduce four-color originals. According to the characteristics of design manuscripts, the decision of each color version is decided under the condition that the original style and level are kept to the maximum. For example, the cyan version of the food manuscript can be removed, and the magenta version can be removed from the landscape manuscript. At the same time, depending on the condition of the production ink, it is considered whether or not the color intensity of the color is properly adjusted during the processing in order to balance the color shift of the ink. For example, a corrugated cardboard box for packaging Pepsi Cola, taking into consideration that it uses a three-color printing press, removes the black version when processing its design draft, and smoothly realizes the color printing of a corrugated cardboard box.
In short, if the problem of printing color number is taken into account during design, the aforementioned difficulties will not be encountered before mass production. At the same time, the smaller the number of printing colors is, the more beneficial it is for the printing operation, quality control, and cost control in mass production.
2. Registration processing
In prepress processing of flexographic printing, on the one hand, it is necessary to pursue the exquisiteness of the pattern, and on the other hand, it is also necessary to consider the difficulty of printing. The overlay accuracy of corrugated box printers is low. If a text or color block is to be overprinted, it will undoubtedly increase the difficulty of printing. For small texts and designs, if trapping is used, trapping will be necessary. The trapping volume of corrugated cartons is usually 1 mm, and the trapping volume is so large that it is too difficult for small texts and designs. Therefore, it is best to use a single color for fine text and graphics.
When complementary colors are overprinted, due to the trapping processing, black borders will appear at the intersection of the two colors, affecting the aesthetics of the package. By adding a white border to the boundary of one of the colors, such problems can be solved. Relatively speaking, dark and light colors are better than each other.
