Packaging Industry: From Large to Strong (I)

The development of China's packaging industry over the past 20 years, from small to large, has evolved from a decentralized auxiliary industry into an independent and relatively complete industrial system and has become a new important growth point for the national economy. China has become a big packaging country. The World Packaging Organization decided to hold the World Packaging Conference in China for the first time in 2006. In order to integrate the world packaging industry as soon as possible, the packaging industry in China will continue to develop steadily and steadily under the guidance of national macroeconomic policies. The Economic and Trade Commission is organizing the drafting of the "Policy Opinions on Promoting the Development of China's Packaging Industry." The World Packaging Organization and the State Economic and Trade Commission approved the establishment of an Asian packaging center in China. These are major events in the packaging industry, affecting the overall situation and benefiting the country and the people. The packaging industry must seize the opportunity, down to earth, and develop the packaging industry.
Main Achievements and Successful Experiences of Modern Packaging Industry in China
The rapid development of modern packaging industry in China has been a thing of the past 20 years. For more than 20 years, China's packaging industry has grown by leaps and bounds from small to large. It has been growing at an annual average rate of more than 18%, reaching 237.6 billion yuan in 2001, and 40th in 40 industries in the national economy. Bit rose to 15th now. The ratio of the output value of the packaging industry to the total social output value has risen from 0.4% in the early 1980s to nearly 2%. Through these 20 years of hard work, the overall level of China's packaging industry has also been greatly improved, narrowing the gap with developed countries, most of the world's general packaging equipment, packaging materials and packaging products we can produce. We spent more than 20 years to complete the development of the developed countries in the last 40 years.
These achievements are mainly due to the following three aspects:
Pay attention to the technological progress of the packaging industry.
For more than 20 years, nearly 40% of packaging companies have undergone technological transformation and expansion, and have introduced a large number of advanced foreign technologies and equipment. Through the training of talents, packaging machinery enterprises have implemented independent development and cooperation with foreign investment, and the level of technology and equipment has been improved. Downstream products such as food, beverages, daily chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electronics, chemical and other industries also carried out large-scale technological transformation and renewal of packaging equipment, which ensured the improvement of the quality of commodity packaging.
Cultivate pillar industries and backbone enterprises
According to incomplete statistics on packaging enterprises above the county level, China's packaging companies have grown to more than 20,000 and created more than 3 million jobs. In some small and medium-sized cities in East China and South China, the packaging industry has become one of the pillar industries in the region. Some packaging companies have gradually developed into production bases for packaging products.
Introduce foreign advanced technology and equipment.
Several outstanding problems in the current packaging industry
Although the packaging industry has made great achievements, as a new industry, its growth and development are still immature, and there is no sustainable development potential. Compared with developed countries, there is still a big gap. This of course, to a certain extent, shows that the state’s support for this industry is also insufficient, and there are obstacles in policy, technology, and systems.
The main problems in the packaging industry in China are as follows:
First, most packaging companies are smaller in scale and have lower industrial concentration.
Among packaging companies in China, there are quite a few packaging companies with independent intellectual property rights, outstanding main business, strong core competitiveness, and certain influence in the world. The vast majority of packaging companies are still small-scale processing plants. The shortage of funds, production processes and equipment are relatively backward and unable to transform, technical personnel are seriously inadequate, labor productivity is low, and product quality is often not guaranteed.
Second, China's packaging industry is under the influence and containment of foreign packaging multinational companies. The main high-tech packaging equipment and raw materials are also heavily dependent on imports.
After China's entry into the WTO, the world's packaging powers will enter China's packaging market in a large scale with its concentrated capital and technological advantages. Packaging equipment dominates the packaging industry and influences and determines the direction and speed of the packaging industry. Therefore, if there is no strong countermeasure, the commanding heights of the packaging industry in China may be controlled by the international capital of the world's packaging power. This is Should cause us to attach great importance to. At the same time, as the packaging equipment and raw material industries are both capital and technology-intensive industries, the capital investment is large, and the technology content is high. In this regard, we have a large gap, and a large number of complete sets, high-tech equipment and high-performance packaging materials also rely mainly on import. In addition, strict technical standards, environmental standards, technical regulations, and environmental labels developed by some developed countries have created new non-tariff technical barriers to imported products. If the packaging of China's products does not meet these requirements in terms of technical standards and environmental performance, then It will not only affect the competitiveness of China's packaging in the international market, but also bring significant economic losses to foreign trade.
