Development of new PVC screening technology for waste plastics in Japan

Recently, NEC Corporation of Japan successfully developed a technique for the low-level and high-precision screening of polyvinyl chloride resins (PVC) from waste plastics. The technology of screening PVC from waste plastics used the broad spectrum of transmission/absorption of near-infrared rays in the past. Since objects are limited to transparent bottles, there is a problem that the screening accuracy is low and the cost is high. When the PVC is heated to 190Â°C or higher, hydrogen chloride gas is generated, and a small amount of waste plastics can cause difficulty in recycling. The new technology developed by NEC utilizes the difference between the heating characteristics (within 50Â°C) and charging characteristics of PVC and other plastics. The detected red mark of PVC is easily screened by the operator. Waste plastics are classified and recycled according to PVC, plastics with high heat, and plastics with low calories. High-calorie PE, PP and other heat recovery, PET, PS, ABS, etc. with low calorific value can be recovered with charged labels, no harmful gas, etc., and no pretreatment equipment such as crushing and washing. This method is more accurate than near-infrared technology and costs only 1/2 of it.
