IDENTEC SOLUTIONS Launches RFID Tags for Perishable Food Temperature Tracking

IDENTEC SOLUTIONS is a leading supplier of active remote RFID systems. It announced the launch of a wireless recordable temperature RFID tag for use in the food processing and transportation industry to meet the legal requirements imposed by the European Union on January 1, 2005 and the food tracking requirements that the United States is currently enacting.

This patented wireless temperature recording tag can take, record and store up to 13,000 temperature records at a time, and can be read in a range of 100 meters with a portable PDA or dock reader when needed. The tag has an optional function that its outside temperature probe can be used to measure the temperature inside the food during freezing.

From September 23 to 25, 2005, this new technology was first exhibited by Fibergrations at the NAFEM exhibition in Anaheim, California. This company focused on the food industry is a partner of IDENTEC. On September 24, this technology was demonstrated at Fiberborgation's booth #2710, and Mike Beedles gave a report on RFID for NAFEM. Mr. Bary Allent, VP of IDENTEC, explained: “We designed this product to help companies not invest heavily in infrastructure and to meet stringent regulatory requirements for food tracking. Customers need a reliable, easy-to-use product. Monitoring and tracking technology. We conducted this design based on five years of market feedback from our ILR RFID technology.”

This temperature recording tag has a working range of -40°C to +85°C and a battery life of 6 years. The accuracy of temperature measurement can reach below 0.25°C, and the recording interval can be controlled from 1 minute to 18 hours. This means that users can obtain a history of weeks or delays in shipping products from source to destination. The tag communicates with 115 kBaud and the working distance is 100 meters. It can quickly read the temperature record at the entrance of the wharf.
