Solvent-free rubber rollers are high-speed rubber rollers. The balance of rubber rollers is a key factor in design and manufacturing, and it is also a necessary way to ensure the quality and performance of rubber rollers. Why do solvent-free compound rubber rollers need to be balanced? This column is explained in detail.
1. The purpose of balance
The process of rubber roller balancing is to change the distribution of roller mass so that its center of gravity is consistent with the axis of the supporting bearing. The purpose of balancing is to reduce vibration.
An unbalance occurs when the center of gravity of a rubber roller deviates from the rotation axis defined by the bearings at both ends. If the unbalance of the rubber roller is not properly treated, excessive vibration will occur. And when the speed increases, the vibration will also increase.
Vibration is an important issue for high-speed compound machines. Excessive amount of vibration will lead to a reduction in compound quality and obstacles to the normal operation of the machine itself. Excessive vibration may cause the following problems:
(1) Reduce the mechanical efficiency of the machine.
(2) Uneven pressure caused by uneven pressure, resulting in unevenness of coating compound.
(3) Increase the wear of roller bearings.
(4) Affect the stability of the substrate tension.
(5) Limit or reduce the mechanical speed.
(6) Increase the wrinkle of the substrate.
(7) Increase the overheating or delamination of the adhesive layer.
2. Balance reasons and treatment methods
The unfavorable condition corresponding to balance is unbalance, including static unbalance and dynamic unbalance.
1) The cause of static imbalance and its treatment
Common causes of static imbalance are:
(1) Defects or irregularities in the iron core.
(2) Poor processing.
(3) The inside of the iron core tube is eccentric.
(4) Defects in encapsulation or other problems.
Static balance is achieved by placing (or removing) a weight on a section (also called a correction surface) perpendicular to the rubber roller's vertical axis of rotation to ensure that the unbalance of the rubber roller is within the specified range when it is stationary.
2) Reasons for dynamic imbalance and their treatment
Dynamic balance is the balance of the rubber roller during rotation. Statically balanced rubber rollers are not necessarily dynamically balanced. The roller shaft must perform both static and dynamic balancing. When the rotation speed and the length-to-diameter ratio increase to a certain value, balance becomes a critical issue.
The cause of dynamic imbalance may be the same as static imbalance, but it may also be related to other factors, such as shape, such as poor cylindricity. Doing dynamic balance can solve the problems of static unbalance and dynamic unbalance.
The iron core must first be balanced by its processing plant. Balance review should also be carried out when re-encapsulating. After the rubber roller is covered with rubber, dynamic balance testing is also required.
Dynamic balancing is achieved by placing counterweights on two or more sections of the vertical and rotating shafts of the rubber roller. Perform correction balance on two or more sections (also called correction planes) of the rubber roller at the same time to remove the remaining unbalanced amount to ensure that the unbalanced amount of the rubber roller is within the specified range when rotating. Dynamic balance is often called double-sided balance, and static balance is also called single-sided balance.
The perfect balance can only be achieved in theory, even if the cost can be achieved, it may not be acceptable. Therefore, an acceptable balance is usually determined. The following factors need to be considered:
(1) The running speed of the machine.
(2) The structural rigidity of the rubber roller itself.
(3) Use conditions of rubber rollers.
(4) The rigidity of the support.
