How the pen works

A pen is like a computer. You don't need to understand how it works when you use it, but if you have a certain understanding of how it works, you will get a better and more comprehensive experience, especially if your pen has problems and needs to be When it is repaired.

The three basic components of a pen

Nib

11

The tip of the pen is a piece of metal at the tip of the pen. It is the most recognizable part of the pen. The pen can be used to distinguish the pen from the ballpoint pen and the gel pen. The middle slit divides the pen mouth into two halves, and uses the capillary phenomenon to drain the ink to make the nib work normally. In order to prevent wear during use, the granules are usually covered with a layer of hard alloy (this kind of hard alloy is used to be called "铱", but it is not necessary to actually contain strontium). The other end of the shoulder usually has a circular or heart-shaped aperture called an ink absorbing aperture. In order to smooth the ink, the shoulders from the ink absorbing holes to the granules will gradually tighten slightly, but in fact, the left and right halves of the stylus and the granules should not be in direct contact.

Tongue (Feed)

twenty two

Attached to the back of the pen tip is the tongue portion, which supplies ink to the tip of the pen, usually made of black or gray plastic, but other colors or other special materials such as hard rubber can be used. Most tongues have an ink path that uses capillary action to transport ink from the inside of the pen to the tip of the pen—just as the pen tip transfers ink from the pen to the sputum. The ink fins have the effect of controlling the flow of ink, usually hidden inside the pen grip of the pen. The tongue should be aligned with the tip of the pen, installed on the back of the pen to work properly, and there should be no blockage in the ink path or ink fins. The ink also has a certain viscosity to be sucked out of the pen tongue by capillary action. This is why the pen must use the ink dedicated to the pen. If a non-pen-specific ink is used, the best case is that the ink is not smooth. In the worst case, the ink contains adhesive, and the adhesive will harden in the tongue, so that the entire tongue will be destroyed. Drop it.

Ink Reservoir

33

The ink reservoir is the place to store ink, which is also a feature to distinguish between pens and fountain pens. The ink reservoir can be a simple ink bag, or an inking device for picking up various inking mechanisms of bottled ink, and sometimes even a pen holder with ink on the dropper.

Other important parts

Pen cover

44

Some pens have a pen tip that is retractable, but most pens use a pen cover. When the pen is not in use, you should keep the pen cover closed or the pen tip retracted, because the pen tip will not be written, and it will start to dry in a minute or two. In case your pen tip is really dry, it's fine to rewrite it for a while, or drop a drop of water on the tip of the pen.

Nib Collar

55

Some pens have a nib sleeve that fits the nib and the tongue into a separate "tip part." Then the entire nib portion can be screwed in or out of the pen grip of the pen for easy cleaning or replacement.

Grip Section

66

The pen grip is a point of attachment for the pen, and the pen tip, the tongue, the ink reservoir, and your fingers are brought together. In English, the pen grip is sometimes called a nib section or just "the section."

Penrel

77

The pen is the last part of the pen body, and the pen grip can be screwed into the pen holder. For most pens, the pen is just a fancy shell that protects the ink reservoir and makes the pen easier to hold on the hand. However, for some pens with a built-in piston or vacuum inking system, the ink reservoir is mainly composed of a pen holder. For the drop pen ink pen, the pen bar itself is the ink reservoir.
