Japan develops new type of PBT resin "NOVADURAN" (Novadulle)

Japan's Mitsubishi Engineering Plastics Co., Ltd. has recently successfully developed PBT casting and blow molding resin “Novadule”, its brand name is 5020S (homogeneous density 1.31 melting point 224°C), 5505S (soft), 5510S (ultra soft density 1.29 Melting point 219°C).

PBT-polybutylene terephthalate is one of the five engineering plastics. In the past, it was mainly used for injection moldings such as connectors and housings for electrical appliances. The newly developed cast and blow molding grade resin has high crystallinity, high flowability, does not change properties due to temperature, and is easily coextruded by multiple layers. The film has the advantages of high strength, high heat resistance, high transparency, high gloss, wear resistance, acid resistance, moisture resistance, and fragrance protection. Compared with 30 micron PBT, 30 micron LLDPE, and 12 micron PET, the tensile strength of the former is 4 to 5 times that of the latter. The same 25 micron film, oxygen permeability PBT and PET the same, the water vapor transmission rate PBT is slightly higher than PET. PBT is particularly desirable as a skin layer of a multilayer co-extruded film. For example, PBT5020S/AD/PA/AD/LLDPE composite film with a total thickness of 80 microns has a gas barrier property of 9 times the total thickness of 80 microns for LDPE/AD/PA/AD/LLDPE, making it ideal for packaging condiments, pickles, and ham Intestines, coffee, and aromatic chemicals.

Novadnran's standard forming method is that the resin must be pre-dried before it is processed. The temperature is controlled at 130°C for more than 4 hours and the ideal moisture content is 100 ppm or less. Extrusion> 24, compression ratio> 3.0, barrel temperature, T-die mode, can get a good transparent film forming effect. Air-cooled multi-layer inflatable blown film method can achieve good milky white film forming effect. With the water-cooled multi-layer inflation blown film method, high rigidity multi-layer film forming effects can be obtained.

PBT casting and blow molding resins have just been successfully developed and can be foreseen to be gradually commercialized. (High-tech)
